In the late 1800’s, Iron Furnaces around the SE Ohio area burned red hot, smelting ore into iron. The Hope Furnace outside of Athens County operated from 1854-1874, producing 15 tons of iron a day. The structure still stands today and was inspiration for the biggest, richest, and burliest barleywine style ale was have ever produced. It was brewed with a ludicrous amount of local maple syrup and aged for 18 months in some of our favorite bourbon barrels.
